Frequently asked questions

What problems do people seek help for? +

People enter therapy for a variety of different reasons. It completely depends on the personal circumstances of the individual. Some of the concerns could include:

Struggling with anxiety, insomnia and sleeping problems, depression, stress, low self-esteem, chronic fatigue, school related problems (e.g., school refusal, bullying, exam stress), grief and loss, relationship and family problems, sexuality, alcohol and substance use, self-harm, anger, eating disorders, phobias, obsessive-compulsive problems and more.

Is what I discuss during therapy confidential? +

Yes, the content of your session is kept completely confidential and will not be released to any person or organisation without your permission.

There can however be several exceptions to confidentiality. For example, if a child requires protection or if someone is in immediate physical danger. Psychologists are legally required to take action to prevent this from happening – even if it requires breaking patient confidentiality.

How often will we meet? +

Therapy sessions occur on a weekly basis. This timeframe is preferable when first starting with therapy, as it allows time to process the learning and gain momentum. However, over time the frequency of sessions will likely change. This will depend on the nature of the issues involved and the stage of therapy.

What are your fees? +

If you are a medical aid patient, I claim directly from the respective medical aid if the necessary funds for psychological services are available. Standard medical aid rates apply. Alternatively, the cash fee (without medical aid) is R1000 for a 50-60 minute session.

Are you LGBTQ friendly? +

Yes, I am LGBTQ friendly and offer a safe space for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation.

Are you bilingual? +

Yes, I am fluent in both English and Afrikaans. Depending on your language preference sessions can take place in either one of the mentioned options.

What should I expect from the first session? +

The initial session is an opportunity to settle into therapy. I will guide the discussion by asking you questions that will help you build a stronger sense of what you are currently experiencing in your life, what’s on your mind and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy.

During this meeting, I will share my initial impressions and recommendations of the next steps to take.
